Intel’s Tan Lip-bu will visit Taiwan in May, marking his first trip to the country since taking over as CEO of the company in March.

Industry sources said Intel is reportedly planning a banquet in mid-May ahead of Computex, inviting dozens of key suppliers to reinforce ties. While Tan will not deliver a keynote at the tech conference, he is expected to share his industry outlook, sources added.

Tan brings deep industry experience, having served as CEO for Cadence Design Systems from 2009 to 2021. He is known for his familiarity with Taiwan’s semiconductor supply chain.

Past Intel CEOs have often scheduled meetings with major suppliers during Computex or in the lead-up to it, the report said. Tan’s itinerary has not been finalized, and details about his visit remain unconfirmed.

Computex will feature prominent tech leaders such as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai and Foxconn Chair Young Liu

In Intel’s annual report released in March, Tan admitted the company’s performance last year fell short of shareholder expectations. He pledged to continue transforming Intel’s product and foundry operations.

Tan also vowed to reinforce Intel’s position in the cloud AI data center market. He said Intel would prioritize cost-efficient rack-scale systems to meet rising customer demand for high-performance computing.

Tan was appointed CEO on March 12, becoming Intel’s ninth following Pat Gelsinger’s departure on Dec. 1.
